FAQ

Below is a list of the most common questions that are asked about our products. Click on a question below to reveal the answer. If you don't find an answer to your question please contact us directly at (800) 517-0773 and we will answer your questions.

Q: Why Is The CL Free Water System Better Than A Salt Water Pool?

Salt generators basically produce chlorine from salt. Salt is sodium/chloride. A salt generator uses between 500 to 1500 watts of A/C power to split the salt crystal. The energy consumption is like running a hair dryer for 8 to 12 hours. The result of this process is a sodium based pool (salt water) and chloride. Our system is 100% chlorine and chemical free! Q: My Pool Guy says our system won’t work, is he right?

1. Obviously your “Pool Guy” is not part of our Dealer network. We have over 400 locations throughout the US, Canada and Europe.

2. Your Pool Guy SELLS CHEMICALS! If his company did not qualify to become one of our Dealers, he can’t sell you our system so what else can he sell you but chemicals?

3. Ask him to show you one CL Free Water System that does not work. (he won’t be able to give you one example) We have been in business for over thirteen years and have a perfect Better Business Bureau record.

Q: How can the CL Free Systems be so good but this is the first time I have heard of it?

1. The CL Free Water Systems Factory is based in Phoenix Arizona. We have been Factory direct to the customer for over twelve years. Unless you were referred by a Doctor, Physical Therapist , a current customer, have seen our product on the episodes of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Discovery Channel or on the TLC shows, you may not of discovered our systems. Until recently, most of our Customers were on the internet looking for a 100% Chlorine NON-Saltwater ECO- Friendly water system and there you found us.

2. Three years ago we changed our business model from Factory Direct to having Dealers in the local market place offering our systems to their customers. The Factory will only sell direct to the consumer when we do not have a local Dealer.

Q: Is Copper in the water safe for me?

Absolutely. We run our pools at 50% of the safe drinking water levels according to the EPA. In fact, if you drank 3 to 4 gallons of pool water, you would ingest the amount of copper found in a multiple-vitamin.

Q: Is the Pool system easy to install and operate?

How about the Whole House System?

Yes. The pool installation can easily be completed in 30-60 minutes for the "Classic" pool system. Operation of the system requires weekly testing of the pH and copper in the pool water on the "Classic" and the "Classic-plus" pool systems. Our "Ultra" pool system checks AND adjusts the pH automatically.

Installation of the CL Free Whole House System should be done by a Plumber because you are dealing with high pressure water lines. All our Whole House Water Systems come assembled and ready to go.

Q: Product Maintenance

Cleaning the CL Free Flow Chamber.

1. Carefully remove the four wires from the outside of the Flow Chamber noting that one pair of wires are marked “Titanium” and the other set are marked “Copper”.

2. Unscrew the hand held unions from the Flow Chamber and slide the Flow Chamber out.

3. Get a bucket and fill it with 1/3 Muriatic acid 2/3 water.

4. Mix the acid and water. Keep your face away from the bucket. Use in a well ventilated area. Always protect your eyes.

5. If there is a large amount of debris on the Titanium plates, you may use a paint stick or any type of wood to remove the debris. Never use a metal object as it will scratch the plates.

6. Place the Flow Chamber in the bucket and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Agitate the Flow Chamber after 5 minutes and place it back in the bucket for another 10 minutes.

7. Remove the Flow Chamber and rinse with fresh water.

8. Re-install the Flow Chamber (lube the gaskets with gasket grease) and connect the wires making sure the Copper goes with the Copper bars (they are labeled) and the Titanium with the Titanium plates. One wire should be on each side of the chamber.

Q: If I purchase the CL Free "Ultra" Pool System with Co2, where can I buy the Co2 ?

Co2 can be purchased from air supply companies, beverage companies or welding supply companies. Depending on the company, you may have the option of either purchase a tank or rent one. In many markets, these companies will actually come to your house on a regular basis and change your tanks out for you. Some pool owners simply purchase two tanks.

Q: Will the CL Free Pool System's copper ions stain my pool?

The Computerized CL Free Pool Controller has several safeguards to prevent copper staining from occurring. The amount of copper ions being added to your pool is significantly less than levels that would begin to cause staining. To maintain precise copper levels, the CL Free's Computer Controller re-ionizes your pool water on a daily basis. Based on the size your pool, you have an unlimited number of power settings so you can precisely control the amount of ions that are being released on a daily basis.

Q: Is the CL Free Whole House System a water softener?

No. Water softeners use salt (either sodium chloride or potassium chloride) to create sodium or potassium ions which exchange with the calcium ions in the calcium carbonate suspended in the water, thus removing the "hard" part of the water. Our system changes suspended calcium carbonate into calcium bi-carbonate, which can then precipitate or fall out of solution. Small amounts of water spotting may occur, but are easily wiped or rinsed away.

Q: What are the service requirements and/or expendables?

Based on your water's hardness and other factors, the plates will need cleaning once or twice a year. The copper plates will need replacement every 12 to 24 months depending on usage. The titanium plates do not wear out and should never need replacement.

Q: How long do the copper bars last and how much do they cost to replace?

Life of the copper bars will depend on the length of your pool season, the condition of the water and the size of your pool. Normally, they will last 12 to 18 months and cost about $150 to replace. They can be replaced by the pool owner in a few minutes with a screw driver. The CL Free Whole House System Copper bars should last 5-7 years.

Q: Is water with ionized Copper in it safe to drink?

Yes! In fact, if you look at the label on your multiple vitamin bottle, you'll see that 2 milligrams is the recommended minimum daily value amount of copper.

Q: Can I drink too much Copper water?

Only by drowning! You would have to drink 2.64 gallons of water per day, (42.3 eight ounce glasses of water), just to get 100% of your minimum daily value amount requirement of copper.

Q: Is Copper good for my plants?

Yes. Copper is good and necessary for your plants. Hydroponic farms add much higher doses of Copper to their nutrient solutions than we do.

Q: What does the EPA say about Copper in drinking water?

The EPA's Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLG) is desirable, non-enforceable, health-based goals established to assure a safe water supply. Water containing any chemical in an amount equal to or below its MCLG is not expected to cause any health problems, even over a lifetime of ingestion. The current MCLG for copper in drinking water is 1.30 ppm (parts per million). Your CFWS Whole House System is designed to maintain your drinking water at between 0.15 and 0.20 ppm, just 13% of the EPA's MCLG.
